Our world is characterised by a continually widening ecumenism, both in the trafficking and formation of ideas, perceptions, behaviours and standards, as well as in the sectors of the economy and technological development. Products, services, capital and people move easier than ever.

At the same time, new technologies, in combination with new know-how regarding the regulation and organisation of markets, transform important sectors of the world economy - energy, telecommunications, information technology, transportation - releasing them to a great extent from political procedures by giving them a continuously significant role in the market. The intervention of the state in areas that it has dominated in the past is gradually decreasing to the benefit of smaller, a lot more flexible and effective entities that are based on the idea of networking and information exchange.

This new model of interaction and synergy of the structural factors society and the economy are built on, with the exploitation of new technology being the basic element, creates new challenges and opportunities, new demands and expectations, new structures and values, both for the individual and social groups.

Recognising that enterprises TODAY are called to accelerate their adaptation to the new environment by forming a wider spectrum of opportunities and by undertaking initiatives for the revival of a social conscience, of activity, solidarity and cohesion,

WE DECLARE THAT

We establish the Hellenic Network for Social Cohesion under the name :

HELLENIC NETWORK FOR SOCIAL COHESION (NETWORK).

Our targets are

The sensitisation and commitment of the business community but also of individual social teams towards the promotion of social cohesion in our country.

The collection of resources and their co-ordination and dissemination for the attainment of the common target: social solidarity.
The development of communication, synergy and co-ordination mechanisms amongst the enterprises - members of the network for the joint implementation or exchange of best practice.
Public dialogue on a wealth of ideas and suggestions that governmental and other institutions can exploit in the future and possibly adopt.

As participation criteria we choose the free will of the Greek Enterprises to incorporate themselves into the network and to substantially contribute to the promotion of the idea of social cohesion, through the acceptance of the network's operating framework, as described in its charter of establishment.

The Network's basic activities are summarized as

The smooth induction into the social web of socially disadvantaged members of our society such as:

  • people with disabilities
  • financial immigrants and political refugees
  • former drug addicts
  • former convicts and people who have served time in prison
  • the long term unemployed
  • the internal development of the notion of "social voluntarism" in the Network's member companies
  • protection of the environment

The following have been set as the main priorities

  • The identification - for as wide as possible a range of enterprises - of socially responsible programmes, of their philosophy, of their direction and methodology.
  • The identification of new elements of social concern and the expansion of the Network membership to representatives from SMEs.

All of us, who sign this institutive declaration, agree and accept the special codes of conduct and the operating charter of the Network and finally, we commit ourselves to give substance and meaning to the above with imagination, innovation, audacity and enthousiasm.
